Refund and Cancellation Policy
Effective date: 2026-04-19 Last updated: 2026-04-19
Summary
- Cancel any time with one click from the Settings page.
- Your paid features stay active until the end of the billing cycle you already paid for.
- We do not provide pro-rata refunds for mid-cycle cancellation by default, but we honour all statutory rights (EU cooling-off, Australian Consumer Law, etc.) below.
- The Free plan has no billing cycle and nothing to cancel or refund.
1. Cancelling a subscription
You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time:
- Sign in at
app.dicted.ai - Open Settings → Plan
- Click Cancel subscription and confirm
That is the entire flow — one click, one confirmation, done. There is no multi-step retention funnel, no "are you sure?" chain, and no offer to keep you that you need to click through.
After you cancel:
- A confirmation email is sent to the address on your account.
- Your subscription remains fully active — same quotas, same features — until the end of the billing cycle you have already paid for.
- At cycle end, your account automatically reverts to the Free plan. You retain access to all your content.
You can resubscribe at any time from the same page with a single click. If you resubscribe while the old subscription is still active, nothing is double-charged — Stripe clears the scheduled cancellation instead.
1.1 What happens to your data when you cancel
Cancelling does not delete your account or your content. Here is exactly what is kept:
- Transcripts, summaries, minutes, action items, and notes are kept until you delete them — on every plan. We never auto-delete the text of your meetings or dictation.
- Meeting audio follows a tiered schedule. On Pro, audio is kept while your subscription is active. On Free, a meeting's audio file is deleted 30 days after the meeting was created, and the transcript is kept.
- You get a 30-day grace period on downgrade. When your subscription ends and you revert to Free, nothing is deleted immediately. For 30 days from the downgrade we email you a reminder and offer to export your audio. After that, your meeting audio falls under the Free 30-day-from-creation rule. You can download any meeting's audio before it is deleted.
- Storage limits: Free includes 5 GB and Pro 100 GB of meeting-audio storage. When you are over the limit, new uploads are blocked until you free up space or upgrade — we never delete existing content to make room.
To erase everything, use Delete account in Settings. Full details of retention and account deletion are in our Privacy Policy (§7 and §7.1).
2. Refunds — default
We do not provide pro-rata refunds for mid-cycle cancellation by default. When you start a billing cycle you have committed to that cycle's cost, and when you cancel you keep the service until cycle end.
3. Refunds — statutory rights
Nothing in §2 overrides rights you have under the law of your country. The following are the main regimes we see:
3.1 Marketed regions
We market the Service in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada. If you chose to sign up from outside those regions (for example, from the EU or UK), your contract is with us under Australian law per the Terms of Service §13 — the EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83 and UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 do not structurally apply to you via our service. Local mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence may still apply to the extent they cannot be contractually excluded — contact [email protected] if you believe you have such a right.
3.2 Australian consumers — Australian Consumer Law
The Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010) provides guarantees that cannot be excluded. If the Service:
- Is not provided with due care and skill
- Is not fit for the purpose you made known to us
- Does not match any description we gave you
you are entitled to the remedies in the ACL. Depending on whether the failure is major or minor, that may include a refund, re-supply of the Service, or compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss.
To make an ACL claim, email [email protected] with the details of the failure. If we cannot resolve the matter, you can escalate to your local fair-trading office or the ACCC.
3.3 Everywhere else
Local consumer protection law applies. If your country's law grants a refund right we have not described, it still applies — contact [email protected] and we will honour it.
4. Discretionary refunds
Outside statutory rights, we may — at our sole discretion — grant a refund in unusual circumstances, for example:
- You signed up by accident (duplicate account, wrong email) and contact us within a few days
- You are a bereaved family member closing a deceased person's account
- A technical problem meaningfully degraded your use of the Service for an extended period
If you think you are in a situation like this, email [email protected] with the details. No guarantees, but we will consider it in good faith.
5. Failed payment
If a payment fails:
- Stripe will automatically retry up to three times over 14 days.
- You will receive an email after each failed attempt with instructions to update your payment method.
- If all retries fail, your subscription is paused and your account reverts to the Free plan. No charge is ever taken successfully in this scenario.
- Your data is preserved during the Free-tier period, and you can restore paid features any time by adding a working payment method.
We do not charge late fees, reactivation fees, or any fee beyond the next billing period's subscription if you return.
6. Termination by us
If we terminate your account for a breach of the Terms of Service (see TERMS_OF_SERVICE.md §5 and §12), we are not obliged to refund the remainder of your billing cycle. In practice, for minor or curable breaches we offer the remainder as credit toward a future subscription, at our discretion.
If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will refund any pre-paid unused portion of a subscription (see Terms §9.3).
7. Contact
All cancellation and refund questions: [email protected]. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
